What follows is the order that avoids the two mistakes most first-timers make: fitting the wrong cover to the wrong seat, and fighting a strap that should have been routed first.
Before you touch anything
Park on a flat surface, set the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery terminal if your truck has side airbags in the front seats. That last step is not superstition. You are going to work around a pyrotechnic device, and the manual for any vehicle with seat airbags says the same thing.
Lay the covers out and match them to seats before you start. Front left, front right, and the rear pieces are cut differently, and a cover stretched onto the wrong seat will look almost right and fit badly forever. Count the pieces against the packing list while everything is still clean and flat on the ground.
Pick your weather. Vinyl and canvas both stretch more willingly on a warm afternoon than on a cold morning, and a cover that fights you at 45 degrees will go on easily at 75. If the truck has been sitting in the sun, let the seats cool for twenty minutes first, because hot foam is soft and the tuck points move under your hand.
Remove the headrests first
Press the release button on the headrest post and pull straight up. On some 2020 trims the post has a second detent, and you will need to push the button again at the halfway point. Set the headrests somewhere they will not get scratched, which rules out the floor of the truck.
Slide the cover over the seatback from the top, working it down like a pillowcase. Stop when the cover reaches the headrest holes. If the kit includes separate headrest covers, fit those now, before the main body is tensioned, because the openings line up better while everything is still loose.
Work the seatback, then the cushion
Once the top is on, pull the cover down and find the openings for the headrest posts. Feed the posts through from underneath, refit the headrests, and check that the cover sits evenly left to right. Any twist at this stage shows up as a diagonal wrinkle at the shoulder that no amount of tugging will remove later.
Then do the cushion. Fit the rear covers with the cushion out of the truck if you can. It is a ten-minute job on a bench and a thirty-minute job hunched over inside the cab. Route the straps around the frame, not around the springs, and keep the seatbelt buckles clear of the cover edges so they do not chafe.

Keep the packing list and the instructions in the glovebox, and note the date you installed them. If you ever sell the truck, the buyer will ask whether the original seats were protected, and a clean, tight install answers that question better than any claim you make about careful ownership.
